Cliffhangers is an exciting four-book junior reading series with a difference-two differences in fact. Each book ocntains ten carefully chosen and carefully graded extracts from contemporary children's fiction. Each extract ends at a critical 'cliffhanging' point, so introducing young readers of eight and upwards to the excitement and entertainment of 'real books' and encouraging them to move from the extract to the complete book. Each extract is accompanied by discussion points and oral activities. these focus successively on the text languange, on the children's reaction to the text language, on the children's reaction to the text and finally on to interviews, role-playing etc. The four books together thus form a complete graded course in oral development for pupils of 8-12 years.
